April 1st, 1942 (16) B-25 North American Mitchell Bombers with 80 brave men were loaded onto the USS Hornet to begin a mission that they may not survive. On April 18th, 1942, they sent a resounding message to the Emperor of Japan after the surprise attack December 7th, 1941, on

Guest Speaker was Steve Leavell from California - a retired United Airline Pilot Steve flew into Pendleton; he serves as a Docent on at the USS Hornet Museum. a wonderful speaker with a look at the mission from the Navy's view.
He spoke of Plane # 8 that landed in Russia and were held POWs for 13 months

Guest Speaker - (Retired) Lt. Col. USAF Terrence Popravak and his wife Edelina from Vancouver WA.
Learn about the Pendleton Army Airfield and it's role in WWII, as we celebrate the 85th anniversary of the opening of the field and the arrival of the 17th Bomb Group and its Squadrons of Bombers.
